Even before Beastieball launched into Early Access, our community was active in self-organizing regular competitive events, and still is to this day! And: although the game is primarily a single-player RPG, we always have been mindful of how the game's player-vs-player experience is designed... so the ongoing interest from fans to take the game seriously and play at a high level has always been exciting to us. We don't want to change what players are already doing, or try to change the game into something it isn't. But at the same time, we want to show our appreciation for the players and organizers who make the Beastieball community what it is.
Enter: The Beastieball Grassroots League! We've created a limited supply of special merchandise which will never be available for sale. Instead, these items will be shipped only to players who place in certified competitive Beastieball events. While we're here, I figure it's due time for a brief update on what we've been working on. So far we've shipped 2 Milestone Updates in 2026, right on schedule with our official roadmap. 71 out of 100+ Beasties are now fully animated! We're on track to release the game in early 2027.
We created this music video to celebrate the most recent update, spotlighting the hard work our animators (Alexis, Mike and Manuela) are doing to bring every Beastie to life. What we lack in big-budget, big-scope development ambitions we strive to make up for in heartfelt and handmade things. This game can be incredibly challenging to make, but we're doing it because we love getting to do it ourselves.
Aside from new animations, story content, challenges etc. we added one more special surprise in our latest game update; Steam Workshop support! It means players can create, play and share custom game content including fully custom (or edited) Beasties! Look, somebody's already made it so you can recruit Kirby!
